Tooth extractions, done with care

We aim to save every natural tooth we can — but when extraction is the right call, here's what to expect.

Our goal is always to help your natural teeth last as long as possible. But damage, infection, crowding, or a tooth that's beyond repair can sometimes make extraction the healthiest option — for that tooth and for the ones around it.

Before the procedure

Your dentist will review your medical history and current medications, examine the tooth, and walk you through why extraction is being recommended and what recovery will look like.

During the procedure

Local anesthesia keeps the area numb — you may feel some pressure, but not sharp pain. The tooth is gently loosened and removed; more difficult extractions may require sectioning the tooth or a small gum incision to access it fully.

Recovery

Expect guidance on managing swelling and discomfort, which may include ice and an over-the-counter or prescribed pain reliever. Stick to soft foods for the first few days, and keep brushing and flossing elsewhere in your mouth while avoiding the extraction site itself.
