How to Care for Porcelain Veneers
Veneers can last a decade or more with the right habits. Here's what keeps them looking their best.
Porcelain veneers are a durable, long-term investment in your smile — but “durable” still depends on how they’re treated day to day. With the right habits, veneers can comfortably last 10 to 20 years.
Daily care
- Brush twice daily with a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive toothpaste — abrasive whitening pastes can dull the porcelain surface over time.
- Floss daily, being gentle around the gumline where the veneer meets your natural tooth.
- Rinse after dark or acidic foods and drinks (coffee, red wine, berries) to limit staining at the margins.

Habits to avoid
- Don’t use your teeth as tools — opening packages or biting fingernails puts veneers at risk of chipping.
- Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth. Grinding is one of the most common causes of premature veneer damage.
- Be cautious with very hard or sticky foods — ice, hard candy, and extremely chewy foods put unnecessary stress on the edges.
Keep up with checkups
Regular dental visits let us check that your veneers are still sealed and intact, and catch any small issues — a hairline chip, a loosening edge — before they become bigger problems.
With consistent care, veneers hold their colour and shape for years. Questions about caring for veneers you already have, or considering getting some? Book a consultation with our team.
