Can You Get Veneers for Missing Teeth?

Veneers need a tooth to bond to — here's what actually fills a gap.

It’s a common question, and the short answer is no — traditional veneers are bonded to the front of an existing tooth, so there needs to be a tooth there for a veneer to attach to. If a tooth is missing entirely, a different treatment is needed to fill the gap.

What actually works for a missing tooth

  • Dental implants — a titanium post replaces the tooth root, topped with a crown that matches your natural teeth. The most permanent, bone-preserving option.
  • Dental bridges — an artificial tooth anchored between two crowns on the neighbouring teeth, filling the gap without surgery.
  • Partial dentures — a removable option for replacing one or more missing teeth.

Where veneers still fit into the picture

If you have missing teeth alongside chipped, discoloured, or unevenly shaped teeth elsewhere, veneers can absolutely be part of a broader smile transformation — just applied to your existing teeth, alongside a separate treatment to fill the gap itself.

The bottom line

Veneers restore the look of teeth that are already there. For a missing tooth, an implant, bridge, or partial denture is the right tool — and often, a treatment plan combines both.
